Crested Butte, Colorado, United States
The Plaza 536 is located in Mt. Crested Butte at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, a 20-minute walk or free Mt. Express shuttle ride to the Silver Queen Express and Red Lady Express chairlifts. Crested Butte is a historic mining-turned-ski town in Gunnison County, Colorado, known for expert ski terrain, a preserved Victorian main street, and a state designation as Colorado's official Wildflower Capital. The immediate neighborhood around The Plaza at Woodcreek is the Mt. Crested Butte base village. Within a 5-minute walk: Mountaineer Square (restaurants, coffee shops, ski rentals, ticket offices), Coffee Lab and lift-accessed lunch venues such as Uley's Cabin and the Paradise Warming House. Traverse partners with Butte & Co for base-area ski and bike storage. Historic downtown Crested Butte is 2.9 miles down-valley (8-minute drive) at the base of the Elk Avenue corridor. Highlights: Secret Stash pizza, Sunflower (organic farm-to-table), Soupçon (French-American), Kochevar's Saloon (established 1896), and the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum. The Mountain Express shuttle connects the village and downtown free of charge every 15 minutes year-round. Summer activities: chairlift-accessed mountain biking on the Evolution Bike Park, the 401 Trail (world-class singletrack), Kebler Pass aspens (the largest aspen grove in North America, peak color mid-September), Oh-Be-Joyful waterfalls, Rainbow Park, the Woods Walk trail system, and the Lower Loop Trail (both 15-minute drives). Winter: Crested Butte Mountain Resort has 1,547 skiable acres with expert terrain on the North Face and family-friendly runs off the Red Lady and Painter Boy lifts. Airports: Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is a 42-minute / 30.9-mile drive with seasonal direct flights from Denver, Houston, and Dallas. Denver International (DEN) is approximately a 4.5-hour drive with shuttle options available through Alpine Express and Dolly's Mountain Shuttle.

HONEST DISCLOSURES — so there are no surprises:
3 PROS worth knowing:
- 1 Queen Bed and 1 Trundle Twin bed with an ensuite bathroom! The King room also has an ensuite bathroom with balcony access, perfect for getting ready with ease!
- 2 covered parking spaces are included — rare in Mt Crested Butte and a real amenity in February.
- The Mt. Express shuttle stops at the door every 15 min — year-round, free, and the easiest way to move between the lifts and downtown.
2 CONS worth knowing:
- It's a ~20-minute walk to the base lifts (0.8 mi via Emmons Loop) — plan on the shuttle or the walk, not a 5-minute sprint. The shuttle at the door bridges the gap.
- Hot tubs and sauna are shared with other Plaza guests — peak après hours (4–6 pm) can get busy. Indoor tub is usually quieter.
OTHER:
- Elevation ~9,375 ft — hydrate aggressively day one, go easy on alcohol the first night.
- Keys for the hot tubs are in the unit.
- Woodburning fireplace — seasonal firewood provided.
- No A/C — rarely needed at 9,375 ft.
- Quiet hours 10 pm – 8 am (HOA).
- No smoking, no pets, no parties.
