Black Bear Lodge unit #303 at Mt. Crested Butte — a two-bedroom, two-bath condo on the 3rd floor with a 3-minute walk to West Wall Lift via the public access at neighboring Westwall Lodge. Vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling great-room windows frame Mt. Crested Butte, and a gas fireplace anchors the living area. Both bedrooms have queen beds; the primary opens to a private balcony with Mt. Crested Butte views. In-unit washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a dedicated workspace. Guest car parks in the heated underground garage (one assigned space) — dry, warm, and secure overnight. A dedicated ski locker in the lobby keeps wet gear out of the condo. Shared building amenities include an outdoor hot tub and a communal grill deck. Walk 3 minutes to the West Wall Lift, 5 minutes to the Mt. Crested Butte base area, or drive 8 minutes down to historic Crested Butte (shops, restaurants, breweries on Elk Avenue). Gunnison–Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is 40 minutes south. Managed by Traverse (@BookTraverse) with a local guest-experience team.

Great place on mountain, fully stocked, beautiful views! We loved it

This was an incredible stay in Crested Butte. From the views of the Whetstone mountain to the proximity to both the ski and main towns this was a beautiful stay. We can’t wait to visit again

Beautiful condo in a great location with a spectacular view. Everything was as described, very clean, well maintained, comfortable. Easy access with parking and the host worked with us quickly to provide parking for a second vehicle, which was very helpful and appreciated. Great location close to local hiking trails and easy drive to other trails. We found the liking book to be very helpful. The kitchen was well equipped with modern appliances and everything you need. The host was very responsive to all of our inquiries. A fantastic location and we would certainly stay here again. Thanks very much!

The accommodations are really nice and the place was well taken care of. Typically this condo and experience would have received a 5 star review from me. The issue is the description and house rules left out a big rule that caused quite the issue. I came to Crested Butte for the trails, specifically to ride ebikes. With no notation or warning, I arrive at the condo to see a posted sign saying no bikes in elevators. I contacted Erin to be told bikes were not allowed to be brought into the condo. Meaning I could not store them on the patio overnight for safekeeping. I had brought over $20,000 in ebikes for my trip and they had to be left in an unattended parking garage. For obvious reasons, this is not ideal. Had this been properly noted in the description, I would have booked elsewhere. For this oversight, or omission, this experience receives a 3 star rating. I highly encourage the listing to be updated for accuracy.

Beautiful space with an amazing view!

Erin is a great host. She was extremely amenable to slightly early check in and slightly later check out to accompany my disabled father. The condo is beautiful and is easier walking distance to one of the lifts than explained in any previous comments. You can easily walk through an outdoor tunnel at Westwall Lodge to get to the lift, there is no need to even take the shuttle up to the base area. Parking is good, but tight given the design of the garage.

Crested Butte, Colorado, United States
Black Bear Lodge is located at 9 Hunter Hill Road in Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado — part of the Mt. Crested Butte base village. The property sits directly across from Westwall Lodge, which hosts a covered/outdoor tunnel route leading to the West Wall Lift. Guests typically walk from the condo to the lift loading zone in approximately 3 minutes on foot. The Mt. Crested Butte base area (shops, dining, ski rental, après-ski) is a 5-minute walk. Historic Downtown Crested Butte: 3 miles north via Gothic Road (Highway 135). The historic district features preserved Victorian storefronts along Elk Avenue, with independent restaurants ranging from casual (burgers, pizza, Mexican) to upscale (fine dining, farm-to-table), craft breweries (Montanya Distillers, Irwin Brewing), art galleries, a bookstore, gear outfitters, live music venues (especially weekend evenings), and Saturday farmers' markets in summer. The free Mountain Express shuttle connects the base village to downtown daily and runs a late-evening schedule for dinner traffic. Seasonal Highlights: - Winter (November–April): Mt. Crested Butte Ski Resort — 1,547 acres, steep-terrain focus, vertical 3,062 ft. Lower crowds than Colorado's I-70 resorts. West Wall Lift (your closest chair) opens upper-mountain advanced terrain. Intermediate and beginner skiers use Red Lady Express from the base area. Nordic skiing at Crested Butte Nordic Center; ice skating at the downtown rink. - Summer (June–September): Wildflower Festival in July. Hiking trails accessible from the base area (401 Trail, Snodgrass, Oh-Be-Joyful). Evolution Bike Park (on-mountain downhill + flow trails). Fly-fishing on the East River and Taylor River. Kebler Pass scenic drive (35-min loop, dirt road, summer only). - Fall (Late September–Early October): Peak aspen color. Kebler Pass becomes a photographer's drive. - Spring ("Mud Season," May): Quieter shoulder season. Best time for off-peak rates and locals-only vibe. Airports: - Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC): 28 miles south, ~40 minutes. Winter direct service from Denver (DEN), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD), and Atlanta (ATL) via American, United, and Delta. - Denver International Airport (DEN): 230 miles east, ~4.5-hour drive via I-70 west to Hwy 285 south to Hwy 50 west to Hwy 135 north. Monarch Pass (11,312 ft) requires winter driving skills November–April. Elevation: 9,375 ft at the property. Symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, shortness of breath, fatigue) typically peak 12–24 hours after arrival. Hydration, avoiding alcohol on night one, and light physical activity on the first day help with acclimation. Strong UV — sunscreen recommended even on cloudy days.
