Crested Butte, Colorado.
A historic mining town turned alpine retreat — steep terrain, summer wildflowers, and a downtown that hasn't lost its soul. Traverse manages slope-side condos and locally rooted vacation rentals at the base of the mountain.
Three buildings we know inside and out.
We manage a curated portfolio of privately owned units across Mt. Crested Butte's most established buildings — places we walk through weekly, with on-the-ground staff who know every floor, every quirk, and every shortcut to the lifts.
The Grand Lodge
200 yards from the Silver Queen Gondola
The original condo-hotel at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Built in 1993 as a Sheraton, converted to a condominium-hotel in 2004. The condominium building features a restaurant, heated pool, and spa — all under one roof.
Lodge at Mountaineer Square
Adjacent to the lifts — steps from the Red Lady Express
Crested Butte's original luxury property, built in 2006–07. Anchors the base area between the transit center and the slopes, with heated underground parking and one of the few buildings in Crested Butte that offers air conditioning. Studios to four-bedroom penthouses with full kitchens, fireplaces, and balconies.
The Plaza Condominiums
100 yards from the Silver Queen — near the West Wall lift
Spacious two- and three-bedroom suites with full kitchens, fireplaces, balconies, and in-unit washer/dryers. The most on-site amenities of any condo complex in Mt. Crested Butte, including indoor and outdoor hot tubs, sauna, steam room, tennis court, and the Iron Horse Tap restaurant and bar.
Slope-side or downtown — two different vacations.
Mount Crested Butte at 9,375 ft is where the lifts, the lodging, and the resort base are. Stay here for ski-in convenience, pools, and proximity to slopes.
Historic Crested Butte in the valley below at 8,909 ft is the real town — Victorian streets, the restaurants, the bars, the farmer's market. The free shuttle connects them every 15 minutes.
Most ski-trip guests stay slope-side and shuttle into town for dinner. Most summer guests flip the equation. Neither is wrong.
When to come.
Winter (Nov–Apr): The steepest in-bounds expert terrain in North America, 300+ inches of annual snowfall, and excellent beginner/intermediate terrain on the front side. January and early March deliver the best conditions with smaller crowds.
Summer (Jun–Sep): The official Wildflower Capital of Colorado. World-class mountain biking on the 401 Trail, hiking to Crested Butte's iconic peak, and the scenic drive over Kebler Pass to Aspen.
Shoulder seasons: Late April–May and October–November. Quiet, beautiful, and half the price.
Your property, professionally managed.
Traverse provides full-service short-term rental management for owners at the Grand Lodge, Lodge at Mountaineer Square, the Plaza, and other Crested Butte properties. We handle everything — guest communication, pricing, cleaning, maintenance coordination, and owner reporting — so you earn rental income without the operational overhead.
We also offer a co-hosting tier for owners who want to stay on Airbnb but need professional support behind the scenes.
Remote on purpose.
Crested Butte is one of Colorado's most secluded ski towns — no interstate, no crowds, just a winding highway through the Gunnison Valley. The isolation is what keeps it authentic.

What's the difference between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte?
Two separate towns 2.5 miles apart. Mt. Crested Butte (9,375 ft) is the resort base — lifts, lodging, and base-area services. Historic Crested Butte (8,909 ft) is the original 1880s mining town with restaurants, bars, and local character. A free shuttle connects them every 15–20 minutes.
Which slope-side building is closest to the lifts?
Lodge at Mountaineer Square is adjacent to the lifts. The Plaza is about 100 yards from the Silver Queen. The Grand Lodge is about 200 yards from the gondola. All three are easy walking distance — you don't need a car or shuttle to reach the slopes from any of them.
Which airport should I fly into?
Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is closest — 30 miles south, about a 35-minute drive. Seasonal nonstop flights from Denver, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago. Denver International (DEN) is the larger alternative but requires a 4–4.5 hour drive.
Do I need a car?
Generally no. The free Mountain Express shuttle runs between Mt. Crested Butte and downtown every 15–20 minutes. Slope-side lodging is walkable to the lifts. A car helps for summer trailheads and day trips, but isn't required for a typical ski week.
When is the best time to visit?
For skiing: January through early March for the best snow with smaller crowds. For summer: late June through August for wildflowers and hiking. For value: late April–May or October–early November — lodging is heavily discounted, though some businesses close.
