Trapper's Treasure 5A is a 1-bedroom-plus-loft condo at Grand West Village Resort on the north side of Leadville, Colorado. The main floor has a queen bedroom, half bath, living room with gas fireplace, and a kitchen stocked for real cooking. Upstairs, the loft sleeps two children or additional guests on 2 twin beds and adds a full bathroom. Two sofa sleepers on the main level bring total capacity to four. The private yard is the reason families rebook — a gas grill, picnic tables, swing set, and horseshoe pit on open grass with mountain views. Designated off-street parking handles oversized vehicles, trailers, and gear-loaded trucks. Downtown Leadville, Harrison Avenue, and the Mineral Belt Trail are ~5 minutes by car. Ski Cooper and Twin Lakes are ~25 minutes. Copper Mountain is ~35-40 minutes. Vail sits ~45-55 minutes east on I-70. The condo has WiFi, cable TV with Roku, a washer + dryer, and mountain views from every window. No A/C — altitude keeps things naturally cool above 9,700 feet. Pet-free home. Flew in for the race. Could not have been a better stay from a convenience standpoint. Quiet, clean, well equipped with things like coffee filters (not always the case and so appreciated). The only hiccup was finding the exact cabin. There are 5 separate units- wasn’t sure which one (no reception to check). But our phone call was answered promptly.

This cabin is the perfect winter getaway. Super cozy with a fire place, comfortable beds, very well equipped kitchen and just 10 minutes away from the ski slopes. Wonderful!!!

Grand West Village Resort sits on the north side of Leadville, Colorado, at approximately 9,700 feet elevation. Downtown Leadville (Harrison Avenue) is about 5 minutes south by car. Leadville is North America's highest incorporated city and the historic silver-mining capital of Colorado. Harrison Avenue preserves a walkable mile of Victorian-era buildings: the Delaware Hotel, Silver Dollar Saloon (1883), Tabor Opera House, Periodic Brewing, Treeline Kitchen, High Mountain Pies, and Melanzana (made-in-Leadville fleece, famously). The Mineral Belt Trail — an 11.6-mile paved loop around the town — is the local go-to for cycling, running, skate skiing, and dog walking. Trailheads are 5-10 minutes from Grand West. Outdoor access from the property: Ski Cooper (25 min north), Twin Lakes and Mt. Elbert trailheads (25 min south), Copper Mountain (35-40 min east), Vail and Beaver Creek (45-55 min via I-70), Independence Pass to Aspen (1.5-2 hr in summer only; pass closed November-May). The property is named for Trapper Sam, a 1860s fur trader whose hand-carved spades and disappeared mine became local legend after a 1890s miner rediscovered his cabin.

ALTITUDE: Grand West Village sits above 9,700 feet. Plan your first 24 hours easy: drink water (double your normal), ease up on alcohol, and avoid heavy exertion the day you arrive. Symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, nausea, and shortness of breath. If you're prone, consider travel insurance — altitude sickness is not a refundable event. NO A/C: Nights in Leadville run 40s-50s even in July. Windows and cross-breezes handle daytime warmth. A/C isn't installed and isn't needed. NO PETS: Trapper's Treasure 5A is a pet-free home. WILDLIFE: You're at elevation in the Rockies. Expect the occasional insect or small critter indoors. We pest-treat regularly and ask that you keep doors closed.
